- What programs do you offer?
We have a 1 year Practical Nursing (LPN) program and a 1 year Accelerated LPN to RN program.
- How do gen-eds work?
Our general education classes are part of our program and can be taken during your program; however, a lot of our students take the general education classes before their program begins, which lightens the full-time course load. Give Admissions a call to see which option might work best for you.
- What course prerequisites do I need?
The only program that has course prerequisites is the Accelerated LPN to RN program. The Accelerated LPN to RN program is for current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who are IV Certified. If you are an LPN and are applying for the Accelerated LPN to RN program, you will need 17 prerequisite credit hours before the program begins. The prerequisites include : Anatomy & Physiology I & II, English Composition, Introduction to Psychology and Principles of Human Nutrition. For transfer credit eligibility, please see our Student Catalog for a list of requirements.
- Besides the application, what all do I need to do to get into the program?
That depends on the program. Please see “prerequisites” and “requirements for Program” on the program pages. Please call us for any clarification.
- Can I still work while going to school?
That depends on you and your situation. Most of our students find it doable to work and go to school, but students and their schedules are different.
- I have kids. Can I still go to school?
That depends on you and your situation. About 75% of our student population has children.
- Do you assist with job placement for your grads?
TCTC provides assistance with employment in the following ways. Facilities from the area come to talk with our students during their program about job opportunities after graduation. We also notify our students and alumni of job fairs and job openings with facilities in the area. At no time does TCTC guarantee placement.
- Do your programs have additional help if students need it?
We offer one-on-one and small group tutoring.
- Are you accredited?
We are institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
- What entrance exams do I need to take?
If you are applying for the LPN program, you will need to take the TEAS exam. If you are applying for the Accelerated LPN to RN program, you will also take the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor.
- What is the TEAS exam?
The TEAS exam is a 170 question exam covering Math, English, Science, and Reading. You will have about 3.5 hours to complete the exam.
All applicants to the LPN program must pass this exam for acceptance into the program. A calculator is built into the exam, so do not bring your own. You will have 2 attempts at this exam. There is a $70 fee for every attempt of this exam.
- I just missed the start date for the program I am interested. What do I do?
You will need to wait to take nursing classes until the next program start date.
- What is a cohort?
A “cohort” is the group of students that have been accepted and will start taking the program together. Nursing cohorts only start once per year and have additional admissions requirements. Everyone that starts a new cohort together will progress through the courses together and will take each class in a specific order throughout the duration of the program. If there is time before your cohort starts, you may take any of the “general education” courses early to get some of them out of the way. You MUST meet with a TCTC admissions staff member to get this set up.
- What is the deadline for your application period?
We fill our program cohorts on a first come, first qualified, first served basis, so our application deadline is when the upcoming program cohort becomes full. Anyone accepted after the program cohort is full will be put on a waitlist for the next program cohort. In some cases, slots in an upcoming, full program cohort may become available in the case that a student in the upcoming cohort opts not to start.
- How do transfer credits work?
After starting your application with us, if you have college credits from another school, you may request an official transcript be sent to us from that institution. Once we receive your TCTC application and official transcripts from your previous institution, our registrar will evaluate your transcript and we will let you know which classes, if any, are eligible for transfer.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept transfer credits for our core nursing classes; only general education classes will be evaluated. For transfer credit eligibility, please see our Student Catalog for a list of requirements.
