Extraordinary Nursing Student Awards

March 9, 2022

This past week we recognized students who have been making a real impact both in and out of the classroom with our Extraordinary Nursing Student Awards. This year’s recipients include Suranda Culver, Brianna Wofford, Ally Preston, and Lily Hughes.

Suranda Culver and Brianna Wofford were both recognized by a family member of a patient who both girls took care of on their clinical day. The patient told them repeatedly that they were sent to her and they both showed her compassion and never left her side during her final moments. Afterwards, they still tended to the family and continued to show them compassion and care.

Ally Preston received the award for her compassion towards her patient and for making sure that his needs where met. He complimented her to her clinical instructor and was excited when he saw he would be under her care again because he knew he would be taken care of.

Lily Hughes, Accelerated LPN to RN student received the Extraordinary Nursing Student award for being a hard worker, a real go-getter, and inquisitive as well as eager to learn during her capstone rotations for clinicals. Lily will be graduating in April 2022!

Congratulations to the winners and thank you for leading by example and making our whole TCTC family proud!

TCTC Instructors and Students Help Administer COVID-19 Vaccinations

February 9th, 2021

On Friday, February 5, Texas County Technical College (TCTC) instructors and students helped administer COVID-19 vaccinations to Texas County and other Missouri residents. TCTC Instructor Jenny Sawyer stated, “It was amazing to be a part of something so monumental. Our students delivering COVID-19 vaccinations to 1,000 residents in the state of Missouri is something that will stay with them forever. We are all doing our part to stop this pandemic.”

Not only was this a monumental moment for our students, but a sentimental one as well. Accelerated LPN to RN student, Taylor Ingram, was given the privilege to administer the vaccine to her grandmother. “I thought it was great that my grandma made the choice to protect herself and others, and it was heartwarming that I was the one that got to administer it to someone that has helped to care for me my entire life,” stated Ingram.

Led by Texas County Memorial Hospital, TCTC Practical Nursing and Accelerated LPN to RN students and instructors and other local organizations came together to execute the clinic by assisting the parking/traffic control, screening, registering, and administering vaccinations to over 1,000 Missouri residents.
