Brittany Staggs

Originally, I was going to a school in my hometown, but I felt like they were trying to break me, not make me a better nurse. So when my friend told me about TCTC I chose to drive an hour because the faculty here actually help you through it.

"Clarice and Chelsye will do absolutely everything they can to find financial help for you. They set me up with programs and grants and all kinds of things that made my whole experience there care-free. While it is a little more costly, they do more for you than other schools when it comes to finding you assistance. TCTC is a nursing school, so they know what kind of help nurses can get, where other schools that try to juggle all kinds of programs simply don’t care about helping you get aid."

“I am a single mom with two children, so I chose not to work, but many of my classmates did work during our program and handled it very well. Texas County’s schedule was actually very convenient. I was able to still take my kids to school and go to their functions. I just had class one day a week and it was all day, so they had to get off the bus at a babysitter but my clinical days were always done in time for me to pick them up from school. It was really nice and important for me to find that program that I only needed help one day a week. Plus, because the program was only two days a week, instead of four like other schools, it was half the amount of time that I was actually spending in school.

Originally, I was going to a school in my hometown, but I felt like they were trying to break me, not make me a better nurse. So when my friend told me about TCTC I chose to drive an hour because the faculty here actually help you through it. The atmosphere is totally different. I started my experience at TCTC by talking to Clarice and the conversation that we had really just changed me and made me feel like I could do it. She told me ‘come here, it’ll be a fresh start.’ I was so worried that the instructors would look at me like I was ignorant because I had failed at another school, but she made me feel like they would be 100% behind me.

The instructors at Texas County did everything they could to help me succeed and encouraged me along the way. Mrs. Hudson is amazing. I’ve been out and working for awhile now and I still think of her on a daily basis. I feel like a lot of times when nurses get out and practice on our own we enable ourselves to pick up bad habits, but I have Mrs. Hudson in my head telling me ‘no Brittany, do it this way. Do it the way that would make Mrs. Hudson proud.’ She was just an amazing role model and has such great integrity. Mrs. Hudson, along with the rest of the faculty at TCTC, completely changed my opinion on nursing school and made me the best nurse I could be.”
